Game of thrones follows A Song of ice and Fire which set in frictional seven kingdoms of Westeros. The series have the kind of violent dynastic struggles among the noble families for the iron throne. While other families are fighting for the independence, the novels have adapted their settings, character and plot from the various events of European history.    

The first season of Game of thrones was released on HBO on April 17, 2011. There were 10 episodes and concluded on June 19, 2011 airing on Sunday at 9:00 PM. The length of each episode is 55 minutes. The story will definitely take you to the frictional world. The story begins with Ned Stark (Sean Bean) who is asked to be a chief advisor to the lecherous King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy). Ned and his wife Catelyn receives a letter from her sister and given them reason to believe that the rival house Lannister to which the King's wife Cersei belongs was the cause of the previous Hand's death. The season has the budget of $60 million.  On 2 September, 2012 the season 1 won the Hugo Award for the best dramatic presentation. 

The second season of Games of thrones series consist of 10 episodes. The series began filming on 25th July, 2011 and wrapped on 12th December, 2011. This Season 2 has 15% higher budget than season 1 with $69 million. The second series is mostly based on A Clash of kings, the second book in A song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. martin. Filming of Season 2 again took place in Northern Ireland, on location and at the Paint Hall studio facility in Belfast. The production considered filming in Spain but ultimately preferred Croatia for budgetary reasons.

Followed by a major increase in audience figures between the first two seasons Season 3 of Game of Thrones was commissioned on 10 April 2012. It consists of ten episodes and began filming on 10 July 2012 and concluded filming of season 3 on 24 November 2012. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss returned as executive producers and show runners. The season premiered on 31 March, 2013. Season 3 is mostly based on the first half of A Storm of Swords, the third book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin.

Season 4 of Game of Thrones was formally commissioned on 2 April 2013. However, significant pre-production work on the season had already taken place previously to this point, including the writing of at least six of the scripts, and the booking of some of the filming dates. It consists of ten episodes and began filming on 8 July 2013. It concluded filming on 21 November 2013. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss returned as showrunners, having signed a new two-year contract with HBO prior to the commissioning of the third season. The season premiered on April 6, 2014 and concluded on June 15, 2014. Season 4 is mostly based on the second half of A Storm of Swords, the third book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin, but a significant amount of material was also added from the fourth and fifth books, A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons, which run concurrently but follow different sets of characters.

Season 5 of Game of Thrones was commissioned by HBO on 8 April 2014. The fifth and sixth seasons were commissioned simultaneously, the first time HBO has commissioned two seasons at once for a major drama series. The season consists of ten episodes. It began filming in July 2014 and concluded on 12 December 2014. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss return as executive producers and showrunners for both seasons five and six, having signed a new two-year contract with HBO in early 2014.The season premiered on April 12, 2015. Season 5 is based mostly on the fourth and fifth novels of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons, respectively. The storylines of the two books run concurrently but follow different sets of characters.

Season 6 of Game of Thrones was formally commissioned by HBO on 8 April 2014. The season consists of ten episodes. It began filming in late July 2015 and concluded on December 17, 2015. The season premiered on April 24, 2016. Season 6 is based on the hitherto unreleased sixth novel of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, The Winds of Winter, along with a significant amount of material from the fourth and fifth books, A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons, which run concurrently but follow different sets of characters.

1. In average each episode costs HBO $6 million to make. One of the episodes took $8 million as it was an action packed.
2. The series is based on three continents and six countries. As the producers have travelled to the United States, Croatia, Morocco, Malta, Iceland and Northern Island for filming and getting perfect locations for the shoot and meet the deadlines.

8. The Dothraki language is an entirely fictional language created for the show. The language is comprised of more than 3,000 words and was created by a linguist named David Peterson.
