Natalie Hershlag was born in Jerusalem. In year 1984 when she was three her parents immigrated to the United States from Israel.  Her father was a medical trainee and they stayed in Washington and later moved to Connecticut and then to New York. In 1999 she graduated from Syosset High school in Syosset, Long Island.  When she was four she started learning dance and performed in various local troops.  Along with this she attended American Theatre Dance Workshop in New Hyde Park. As she was working as an actress she attended Harvard College and graduated in 2003 with an A.B. degree in psychology. Also she has served as guest lecturer on terrorism and counterterrorism at Columbia University.

Portman made her film debut with Leon who is the professional thriller that is directed by Luc Besson. She signed the film in order to protect her family identity and took her grandmother’s name as Portman. Later in year 1995, she played Lauren Gustafson in Michael Mann Crime film.  This film was a commercial hit and has earned good reviews. In year 1996, she has appeared as Marty in the film Beautiful Girls which was directed by Tim Burton. In year 1997, she acted in a stage paly and adapted the book name at the same year. In 1999, she has appeared in the epic titled as Stars Wars. Following the year in 2000, she played a role in Matt Williams’s film debut.      

Natalie was romantically involved with Devendra Banhart who is an American folk singer.  But their relationship hot to end in the year 2008. Portman is an advocate for the animal rights, and she doesn’t wear fur and turned a vegan.  But when she was pregnant she craved for eggs and cheese and resumed her diet after delivery.  Women entrepreneurs are encouraged in developing countries by Natalie as she is the brand Ambassador of Hope for FINCA International by providing financial aid support to them.  Natalie has also worked with different anti-poverty causes.
